Lazlo Torok

6pm Doors/7pm Show

My name is Lazlo Torok and I am a vibraphonist from Denver, Colorado currently studying jazz performance at the Juilliard School in New York City. In my music, I aim to explore the boundaries of improvisation and to create pieces that enable individual expression and a cohesive group dynamic. I am interested especially in the relationship between musical composition and the expression of the human experience. I have had the honor of playing in such festivals as the Vail Jazz Festival and Telluride Jazz Festival as part of the Telluride Jazz All-Stars under the direction of Rufus Reid. I was also a member of the Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts and the Herbie Hancock Institute Weekly Zoom Forum during my high school education at the Denver School of the Arts. I was an award winner in the Young Arts program as well as a Downbeat award winner as part of DSA’s Jazz Workshop Orchestra. I have the honor of sharing the stage with wonderful musicians and fellow Denverites. Drummer JJ Mazza currently attends the Manhattan School of Music in New York City. He is an award-winning musician and was among those chosen from the Herbie Hancock Zoom Forum to go on tour with trumpeter Sean Jones in the spring of 2022. Pianist Max Moore graduated from the Denver School of the Arts and has been teaching and playing professionally in Denver since then. He has performed on KUVO, at the Five Points Jazz Festival, with Rico Jones at Sloan’s Lake, and with many other notable musicians. Bassist Hunter Roberts (also a graduate of the Denver School of the Arts) performs professionally with groups such as BTTRFLY Quintet, Knew Directions, and Break Science. We hope to see you there!
